So I am hoping that one day someone has the resources to actually investigate some of these anomalies and report back. The short summer season, changeable weather conditions and access to transport make these anomalies difficult to investigate (if the scientists down there could be bothered in the first place)Ĭontrary to popular belief no-one stops you from going to Antarctica as long as you inform one of the Antarctic Treaty member governments about what you are doing there and satisfy them that you will abide by the environmental protocols, and have insurance in case you need to be rescued. ![]() #Bazinga definition softwareI say the next big thing as game companies and software houses have noticed this trend and in the upcoming months we'll be seeing UltraHD texture packs for a handful of games. So this article is going to be an introduction into what I consider to be the next big thing in PC Gaming, gaming at UHD 3840 x 2160. The time is near, praise the Lord Hallelujah as we finally have secured a unit. There has been a limited stock available in the USA, but EU allocation is close to NIL and just downright horrible. And to date the availability has been incredibly small. That announcement was late May 2013 prior to Computex. And then there was that announcement from ASUS back in May 2013, the press release mentioned a PQ321 Monitor with 3840 x 2160 IGZO Display. Once we learned about UHD my mind immediately went bazerk, as this we have got to look into PC gaming wise. And yeah, then there is that all new HD resolution called UHD, or in short Ultra High Definition. The high-end community all have been migrating towards 2560x1440 monitors or triple-display solutions. Most if not all of you guys are at FullHD or something close by now (1920x1080). There is one upcoming trend though, display resolutions are on the rise fast. However it has been quiet in the graphics arena, most video cards albeit faster are rather similar and over the past year or so not a lot of new technology has been released. ![]() That said, PC gamers want the best in performance and visual quality and set th bar really high. For a hybrid, range is measured when both the battery and tank are full. For an electric car, this means when the battery is fully charged and for a gas car, when the tank is full. Range is defined as how many miles a car can go when fully fueled. Old Volts will also occasionally switch on gas mode to use up old fuel that may not be used in all-electric mode. The Volt will also run with both electric and gas engines at high speeds or if the car is really heavy - whenever some extra power is required. The Volt also has regenerative braking to help recharge the battery while driving. EV TypeĬhevy considers the Volt an extended range electric, but it is commonly referred to a “series” hybrid, meaning that it runs on exclusively electric energy until the battery is depleted, after which a gasoline motor powers the battery. Note that exact features and options depend on model year. All the other features that come standard with the Premier - Bose speakers, heated seats and wheel, leather interior, faster on-board charger - can be purchased as bundles or add-ons to the LT trim. Chevy volt range efficiency driver#However, only the Premier model offers driver assist features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, forward collision warning, automatic low-speed emergency braking, lane departure intervention, and adaptive headlights. The two trims have identical performance and engines, and differ mostly in accessories. These are the same trim levels offered on the Chevy Bolt. The Volt is available in two trims: the LT and Premier. Reportedly, the hybrid engine was expensive to produce and despite the Volt's mass appeal, it never saw enough profit to continue it. Chevy volt range efficiency full#GM decided to decommission the Volt in 2019 as part of a larger strategic move away from the sedan body type and towards full electric vehicles. In 2017, the second generation Volt was available across the country with 53 miles of electric range and a combined range of 420 miles. It had a single redesign in 2016, with production models of the updated version available only in zero-emissions states that adhered to the California Air Resource Board (CARB) standards. By 2013, the EPA had recertified the first generation Volt at 38 miles all electric. When the first Volt rolled off the production line in the end of 2010, it had a modest all electric range of 35 miles. It has won multiple awards and is credited with helping to bring electric cars to the mainstream. This hybrid engine configuration is referred to as a "series" hybrid, and the Volt was the first such hybrid made by a major automotive company. It runs exclusively on electric energy until the battery is low enough to kick off a gasoline motor that recharges the battery. It was designed to be an affordable, everyday car. The Chevy Volt is a hybrid electric plug-in vehicle that is EPA-rated between 38 and 53 miles of all electric range when new, depending on model year. ![]() ![]() Nowadays you can play most of these all time old graphic adventure games on modern systems, thanks to the help of ScummVM and GOG. It’s a combination of factors that depends entirely on the context for each individual game. The answer is: all of the above – or none! There’s no scientific formula. What constitutes “the best”? How do you compare games spanning decades of styles and technology? Is a now-antiquated genre pioneer from 1985 still a classic today? Does it need to be? Do new games have any right to stand alongside their forebears that paved the way and have stood the test of time? What’s really important? I have a couple of questions regarding this though, because it occurs to me that sometimes you DO want to show duplicates and sometimes not. but of course, Sononym is uniquely suited to detecting duplicates - even across sample formats, bit-rates etc. this is something we didn't even consider. Maybe we can come up with a less hackish, integrated solution.Īs Sononym-dev, I agree with this but also want to clarify a bit: We are a bit wary of recommending this trick (symlinking), but yeah - it works At least, that's how we expect this feedback cycle to work.Īnd yes, that would include the ability to "correct" misclassified sounds, somehow. With similarity search being the core feature, everything surrounding it will (hopefully) reflect the features that people actually need in the upcoming versions. That said, they all LOVED similarity search, since it's totally able to capture the character of such abstract sounds, and enables you to explore how they are related to one another. #Sononym sample browse pro#Furthermore, in professional sound libraries (and I mean the PRO level ones), the metadata is often very detailed and therefore, also useful. In sound design, sounds are often quite abstract and therefore very hard to classify. Having said that none of the three are perfect and its worth checking them all out.As Sononym-dev, I agree with this but also want to clarify a bit:ĭuring development we got input from a couple of heavy-weight game audio professionals, and they politely pointed out that the lack of metadata editing would be a big issue for them. Strangely enough the same guy did a video and at the end compares the two, a fair comparison I think.Īlso not being able to recategorise a mislabeled sample is a big flaw. As of now its not a complete solution, however I think its a great product for what it does. So as clever as Sononym is, and it is pretty smart for getting like sounds, it doesn't do the actual basics as good. Now this is a problem because you can't user re-tag them !! Now another sample management program like Samplism will tag by name, certainly not as techie but in this scenario works way better because the sample creators have called there files sensible names that include the relevant keywords like xxx Kick 021 etc. Sononym categorises/tags by their sonic finger print so unfortunately it misses a few, kicks as toms, plucked synth as hihats etc. Say for example you want to find all the kicks in a Splice folder, there could be thousands. Its touts itself as a Sample management program. The problem I found with Sononym is simply this. I found a really nice example video for this: I think you can't completly compare Audiofinder/Samplism with Sononym!īoth manage samples and tag them, but Sononyms strength is finding similar samples #Sononym sample browse mac#Wish them all the best and if not on a Mac its worth a look IMHO Having said that none of the three are perfect and its worth checking them all out. It also uses a lot of CPU in comparison to others.Īlso not being able to recategorise a mislabeled sample is a big flaw. Of course they can't do the spectral matching. Also most sample libraries do tag their samples by name so in the long run using a name based tagging was actually more accurate than Sononym. ![]() I chose Samplism because its very fast but Mac only. I think Sononym shows promise and the idea is good but it's not quite right, right now.Yes I agree with all your points, I tested out the 3 leading contenders Sononym,Audiofinder and Samplism. The ability to add user tags might help with overall management IMO as, right now, I'd probably have to use it alongside Samplism or Audiofinder. It's in the ballpark - give it a hi-hat and it will find high-pitched noisy things with a short decay but the sounds with high overall similarity are quite different sonically and tend to lose out to a search on a decently tagged library in something more conventional. However, I'm finding the app's view of "similarity" to not be that great. But moving it to a local SSD using a symbolic link is much, much faster - but that's not very manageable for multiple libraries. Similarity searches on the NAS-based database take forever and were practically unusable. One thing the developers should add is the ability to move or shadow the database to local storage such as an SSD. ![]() I've tried this on a library of around 100k percussion samples on a NAS. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To listen to some of the more fanatical climate change worriers, they seem almost to want global warming to happen so we can pay penance for our sins to the planet. Liberals are much more likely to believe that global warming will doom us than are conservatives. Giving a person a fish rather than teaching a person to fish leads to very different life satisfaction outcomes. But every study shows that work is highly associated with happiness. Liberals are less likely to be working and more likely to be on government assistance. If you don't believe in these things, you will likely believe in false idols, such as big government, as your savior. I'd venture to say that the love of country, God and family make people happy. It's a Grand Canyon-sized division between liberals and conservatives. I will toss them out, and readers can decide for themselves if they agree or disagree.įirst, liberals are much less religious, patriotic and interested in getting married and having children than conservatives. The people with the most significant happiness deficiencies are Democratic voters. People are afraid to laugh at anything for fear of offending someone somewhere. Don't you dare say an off-color joke or you will be banished. The "woke" movement has people feeling like they are tied inside a social straitjacket. Children are depressed because schools are still doing remote learning or they are stuck wearing masks for eight hours a day. Then there is the financial stress on families from everything being more expensive. People are still worried about their health two years into the pandemic that Biden promised to shut down. ![]() Then there is out-of-control crime and a significant rise in business failures (from lockdowns), both clearly associated with depression. First, there is isolation and loneliness from lockdowns, stay-at-home orders and travel restrictions. Gee, I wonder why the public is so glum all of a sudden. The happiness index is falling like a stone. Typically, almost 1 in 3 say they are "very happy," and now less than 1 in 5 do. I use angular limits to force a hinge joint to a particular angle by setting the limit min and max values both to that angle, but this stopped working properly in Unity 5. I also found I had to multiply my torque values by a factor of around 50 to get similar behaviour to that in Unity 4.6. The workaround is to explicitly wake up the rigidbodies when turning the motor on. When switching on a joint motor, there is a bug in Unity 5 that means the connected rigidbodies don’t get woken up, and so they don’t start moving if stationary. I tried playing around with these settings but I couldn’t get it to be stable, more experimentation is required, but this could be a real show stopper. With the same settings in Unity 4 this was rock solid. On the subject of fast spinning stuff, despite the aforementioned small time step (and also a high solver iteration count), gears / axles spinning a high rpm now become unstable and start wobbling around. Not much I can do about that though, as I need the smaller time step for accuracy with fast spinning stuff. ![]() physics update) time step I’m using (5ms vs. #TERRATECH DEMO DOWNLOAD UPDATE#After some experimenting, it seems this behaviour is worse with the small fixed update (i.e. Another option would be to disable collisions altogether between neighbouring parts, but that’s problematic as you might actually want them to collide in certain situations.įor some constructions when contacting the ground, their collision response with the ground is kinda jittery and they keep bouncing around for ages after the initial collision. One workaround I tried was to shrink the colliders, trouble is I had to shrink them by quite a large amount and even then I’d still get occasional unwanted collisions. What I thought was my gear constraints not working properly was actually due to the moving parts (blocks, axles and gears) within a construction colliding with each other, and everything was getting all jammed up. The collision contact tolerance seems to have significantly changed with Unity 5. After submitting a bug report, I heard back from Unity - turns out the workaround is to restore the inertia tensor after unfreezing, which works fine. When unfreezing a rigidbody, its rotations weren’t being unfrozen, this bug happens if you had already modified the rigidbody’s inertia tensor. I’ll sum up where I’ve gotten things to so far.
